Sepia Saturday: Faces Without Names

It always makes me sad when I find
old photographs lying in a bin
in antique stores.

Often there's no provenance.

No identification of the beings
who once laughed and loved
and have long since
passed through the veil
to the other side.

Sometimes I take them home,
wondering how their families
could have forgotten them.

Sometimes I just wonder
Who were they?

I understand the Liljenquist Family's
passion for Civil War-era photographs.

Those are beautiful photos. So well preserved. I love the last one with the super fancy mat.

I wonder if sometimes the family died out. At least the branch with the photographs. Sometimes people just toss out everything left. I don't understand it but that's why I have so much stuff around.

This is a great collection of photographs and especailly the surrounds.

Everyone always looks so severe. I'd love to see them the moment after the photograph is taken, when they probably smile with relief!

It is a great collection. These folks don't just look serious, they all look as if they're grieving war losses.

I too can never resist old photographs. They always say to me, take me home and show me to the world. And that is exactly what you have done. If only the subjects of the photographs could realise that people all over the world would be looking at their images 150 years later.
Old photographs should be loved and proudly displayed or at least looked at and wondered, who were you, why is nobody looking out for you, remembering you? There is so much history attached to old photos of. I am hopelessly sentimental when it comes to old photographs.
